A Gemini skill is a reusable instruction. Google’s own help page says it does not yet work with Create video. On 30 September 2026, Google published Let skills in Gemini tackle your most repetitive tasks. JSON-LD on that page lists datePublished as 30 September 2026 16:00 UTC. Skills are rolling into Gemini chat and will replace Gems. That is a saved-instruction desk. It is not a generate desk. ClipCanva is not affiliated with Google, VEED, or Kapwing. If the job is a restock line, lock it on the AI script generator. Steal shot language from prompt ideas. Then generate picture on the AI video generator or image to video. Do not treat /brand-voice as take one.

Google’s skills post does not name Veo, Flow, or Google Vids. Do not import those product names into this brief just because they also say “Google.”
What a skill is — and what it is not
Operators will collapse four objects into “we made a Gemini skill, Friday’s ad is covered.” The public pages refuse that.

If you are saving instructions, you are on a writer / prompt desk. If you are rendering pixels, you are on a generate desk. Google’s Help page is explicit that those desks are not the same object yet.
Pick the desk before you type /
The fail is treating “skills replaced Gems on 30 September” as “the campaign is covered.” Map the job.

If the brief is “try the new Gemini skills,” that is R&D. If the brief is “the two-pack restocks Friday,” that is script, then picture. If the brief is “the skill will handle it,” you do not have a brief.
VEED still keeps AI Video Script Generator as its own nav item. Kapwing still keeps Script Generator and AI Video Generator as different URLs. Google still lists Create video as a Gem tool that skills do not run. None of those pages say a saved instruction is a clip.
Creator / operator checklist
- Separate the skill from the take. If someone forwarded the 30 September Google post, that is an instructions-migration conversation. It is not a shot list.
- Check whether you actually have skills. Help says Gemini chat, personal accounts, 18+. Workspace is “coming weeks.” If your login is a school account in October 2026, do not quote the launch as capacity.
- Read the Create video line. Help lists Create video among tools that do not yet work with skills. Brief that as a hard no, not as a rumor.
- Do not wait for auto-migrate if you used Gems by Google Labs. Google’s Keyword post says those will not migrate. Download them.
- Recreate important Gems now if you need them before November. Help’s path: open the Gem, download Knowledge files, create a lowercase-hyphen folder, create the skill, copy name / description / instructions, then replace with a zip that contains
SKILL.mdplus those files. - Cap the active set at 100. Disable one to enable another. An inactive skill will not save Friday.
- Write the one line the clip must carry. Use the AI script generator. Strike “#1,” ingredient claims, and competitor names you cannot defend. A writing-style skill cannot rescue a sentence legal will strike.
- Keep a scene card. Steal shot language from prompt ideas, then generate one scene. Do not dump a paragraph into VEED generate or Kapwing Video Generator because the page mentioned ads.
- Lock the still before anyone opens a video catalog. If the bottle was shot, you are in image to video from that frame — not in “the skill has a PDF of the label.”
- Name the video model separately. Compare video models on Compare. If a duration or resolution is not on that vendor page, it is not a brief.
Worked example: a Friday restock that does not start in /brand-voice
Say the job is a restock cutdown. The two-pack ships Friday. Legal line approved: Same bottle. Same seal. Restock Friday. The hero still exists. Someone saw Google’s 30 September skills post, noticed Gems die in November, built a /brand-voice skill with the style guide PDF, stacked it with /pack-copy, and told the channel “skills automate this.”
That sentence mixes three desks.
The style guide is an instruction object. A Gemini skill can hold it — if you are on a personal account that already has skills, and if you accept that Help says Create video is not in the skill tool list. Use the skill to draft captions after the line is signed. Do not let auto-apply rewrite the claim.
The spoken line is a writer object. Put the approved sentence on the AI script generator. Eight seconds. No second CTA. If you already live in VEED or Kapwing, their script tools are still script tools. Copy the signed line. Do not hit generate from the unsigned draft.
The pack shot is a still object. Animate it on image to video from that frame. One push-in. No extra bottle. No invented badge.
The renderer is a generate object. If you need a named video model, pick it on Compare or on Kapwing’s generate page. A Gemini skill is not in that catalog. Google did not put it there.
If the team still wants to “try skills,” timebox it as R&D: can /pack-copy reproduce the three approved claims without adding a fourth? That is a writer eval. It is not Friday’s master.

FAQ
Are Gemini skills a video generator? Not on the pages Google published on 30 September 2026. The Keyword post describes reusable instructions replacing Gems. Gemini Apps Help lists Create video among default Gem tools that do not yet work with skills.
Do skills replace my Gem video workflows? Not 1:1. Help says most default Gem tools do not carry over, including Create video and Create music. Gems in Gemini Apps are scheduled to auto-recreate as skills at sunset. Gems by Google Labs will not migrate, per the Keyword post.
When do Gems go away? Google’s dated ladder: November 2026 personal Google accounts; March 2027 Workspace business, enterprise, and nonprofit; June 2027 Workspace education. Opal also turns down in November. Those are Google’s dates, not ClipCanva’s.
Can I use a Gemini skill inside ClipCanva / VEED / Kapwing? Not from those Google pages. VEED and Kapwing still publish their own script and generate tools as separate URLs. ClipCanva is not affiliated with Google.
Should I wait for skills to grow Create video instead of shipping Friday? Only if Friday is an R&D demo. A restock date is a claim, a still, and a duration. Those live on a writer and a generate desk. Google has not dated Create video support for skills beyond “do not yet work.”
Do not confuse a saved instruction with a shippable clip. Lock the line, lock the still, then generate one scene.
