Gemini Omni Replaces Veo in the Gemini App. A 10-Second Chat Clip Is Not a Script

Google's Gemini app now points video to Omni 1.1 Flash, not Veo. Lock the line first — a 10-second chat clip is not a script.

Gemini Omni Replaces Veo in the Gemini App. A 10-Second Chat Clip Is Not a Script

Google’s Gemini app now sells video as Gemini Omni, not Veo. Checked 7 October 2026, the Gemini video page says Omni will replace Veo in the Gemini app, and it labels Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash as the model that will now replace Gemini Veo 3.1 there. That is an app rename. It is not a signed commercial, and it is not proof the Veo 3.1 API disappeared. ClipCanva is not affiliated with Google, VEED, Kapwing, ElevenLabs, or Pika. Lock the spoken line on the AI script generator. Steal shot language from prompt ideas. Lock the pack shot, then animate it on image to video or generate picture on the AI video generator. Do not brief “Veo in Gemini” and paste the unsigned paragraph into chat.

Product facts (confirmed 7 October 2026)

Source Public claim Workflow implication
Gemini Omni video page (checked 7 Oct 2026) Gemini Omni will replace Veo in the Gemini app. Omni 1.1 Flash “will now replace the previous Google Gemini Veo 3.1 model.” Marketing line: “Think of it like Nano Banana for video.” App chat video is an Omni desk. Do not file the brief as Veo unless the live picker still says Veo.
Same Gemini page Create 10-second videos. Native audio. Turn photos into a video (up to five). Marked New: scene extensions, video-to-video editing, multi-turn editing, avatar. Ten seconds is a clip length. Five stills are references. Neither is a shot list.
Same Gemini page Google AI subscription required. Features vary by tier and geography. 18+. A free Google login is not a seat. Do not brief Ultra features on a Plus seat, or US copy on a geo that does not have the control.
Same Gemini FAQ: “What happened to Veo?” Omni is “our latest video editing and generation model that will replace Veo in the Gemini app.” Will replace is Google’s verb. It is not “Veo is deleted from every Google product.”
Same Gemini FAQ: avatars Optional digital version of you that “looks and sounds like you”; “only you can use your avatar.” You can keep uploading photos instead. An avatar is a likeness desk. It does not sign the claim.
Same Gemini FAQ: safety Generated videos in the Gemini app are embedded with SynthID. You can upload a file and ask Gemini if it was generated using Google AI. Watermark is provenance. It is not legal review.
Gemini for Students (checked 7 Oct 2026) One-year student plan “on us” includes video generation with Gemini Omni. University students 18+. Redeem until 31 December 2026. Payment method required. Unless cancelled, Google AI Plus auto-charges $7.99/month after the trial. Eligibility verified each year. Student Omni is a promo SKU. It is not the brand’s production seat.
Enhanced Veo 3.1 in the Gemini API (13 Jan 2026) Veo 3.1 updates in Gemini API and Google AI Studio: Ingredients to Video, native 9:16, improved 1080p and 4K, SynthID. Also on Vertex AI for enterprises. The API / Studio desk still uses the Veo 3.1 name on this post. Do not collapse it into the Gemini app FAQ.
VEED AI Script Generator Own tool. Scripts for social, explainers, marketing. Separate AI Video Generator. FAQ: the script generator “creates video scripts from prompts.” Writer URL stays separate from renderer.
Kapwing AI Script Generator Own AI nav item: hooks, talking points, narration, ads, explainers, podcasts. Separate AI Video Generator. Kapwing still splits script and video.
ElevenLabs AI Video (checked 7 Oct 2026) One workspace listing Gemini Omni Flash and Google Veo 3.1 / Veo 3 Fast, plus Kling, Sora 2, Flux 3, Seedance, Wan. An aggregator can show both names. That is not proof they are the same model, the same length, or the same seat.

Google did not publish, on the pages above, a date when the Gemini app switch completes, a generation quota, or a statement that Veo 3.1 is gone from the API. If a capability is not on the page you are briefing from, it is not a brief.

What Omni in Gemini is — and what it is not

Operators will collapse four objects into “Veo moved, chat will write the restock.” The public pages refuse that.

Surface What the public page says it does What it does not do Fail condition
Gemini app video (Omni 1.1 Flash) Replace Veo in the Gemini app; 10-second clips; native audio; up to five photos; scene extend; video-to-video; multi-turn chat edits; optional avatar Sign the claim, pick the legal line, lock the SKU, guarantee every geo/tier Pasting “make the restock cinematic” into Gemini and calling take one a launch
“Nano Banana for video” Google’s analogy on the video page A stills model, a 4K master, a second CTA Briefing image prompts as if they were shot lists
Student Omni (to 31 Dec 2026) One-year Google AI Plus student offer with Omni video, 18+, university, card on file, then $7.99/month unless cancelled A team production pool Using a campus promo as Friday’s brand seat
Veo 3.1 Gemini API / AI Studio (13 Jan 2026 post) Ingredients-to-video, 9:16, 1080p/4K, SynthID, Vertex for enterprises The Gemini consumer app Telling editors “Veo is dead” because the app FAQ changed
VEED / Kapwing script tools Draft hooks and CTAs on their script URLs Render the scene Hitting generate on the unsigned draft
ElevenLabs video catalog Host named generate models, including Omni Flash and Veo 3.1 Decide which Google name your Gemini app seat actually runs Assuming the aggregator label matches the Gemini app FAQ
ClipCanva script → still → clip Lock the line, lock the frame, then animate one scene Pretend a 10-second chat is a storyboard Skipping the card because “Omni replaced Veo”

If you are chatting a clip into existence, you are on a generate desk. If a developer key is calling Veo 3.1, you are on an API desk. If the file still needs a legal sentence, you are on a writer. If you cannot tell which, do not spend the credits.

Pick the desk before you type Omni — or Veo

The fail is treating “the Gemini app renamed the button” as “the ad is covered.” Map the job.

Job Where it actually runs What you must supply What the system may invent Fail condition
One claim the clip must carry AI script generator — or VEED / Kapwing if that is already your writer Audience, seconds, the signed sentence A second CTA, a second benefit Dumping the brief into Gemini chat because Omni “edits by conversation”
Recap of a long recording AI video summarizer Source cut, claims to keep, claims to strike Compression that changes meaning Feeding the webinar in as “up to five photos” and hoping Omni extracts the claim
Still that must stay on-model Stills desk, then image to video Approved pack shot as frame one Camera path, warped type Remixing from a screenshot of the Amazon tile
Motion from a locked still AI video generator or a named model on Compare Locked still and/or locked caption, crop, seconds Extra props, a second spoken line Hoping five photos plus scene extend will invent the missing hero
Gemini app chat generate Gemini Omni, if your seat shows it The signed line already locked, plus only the in-between action Wardrobe, background, a spoken line you did not approve Briefing it as Veo 3.1 API 4K because a January developer post exists
Gemini API / AI Studio generate Veo 3.1 on the 13 January post — confirm the live model id Ingredients, aspect, resolution your project actually needs Identity drift across ingredients Copying app FAQ limits (10 seconds, five photos) onto an API job, or the reverse

If the brief is “try Omni,” that is R&D. If the brief is “the two-pack restocks Friday,” that is script, stills, then picture. If the brief is “the model will handle it now that it is Omni,” you do not have a brief.

VEED still keeps AI Video Script Generator as its own nav item. Kapwing still keeps Script Generator and AI Video Generator as different URLs. ElevenLabs still lists Omni Flash and Veo 3.1 as separate generate tiles. None of those pages say a 10-second chat is a shot list.

Creator / operator checklist

  1. Read the replacement line out loud. Gemini app: Omni will replace Veo. API post: Veo 3.1 still named in January. If the next sentence in Slack is “so Veo is gone,” stop.
  2. Look at the live picker, not last month’s SOP. If the Gemini app shows Omni, brief Omni. If a vendor page still shows Veo 3.1, brief that vendor’s name. Do not mix them in one ticket.
  3. Cap the spoken line before you open chat. Use the AI script generator. One sentence. Strike “#1,” ingredient claims, and competitor names you cannot defend. Native audio will say whatever you typed, including the lie.
  4. Treat 10 seconds as a ceiling Google published for the app page, not as a story. If the claim needs a pour, a seal, and an end card, you need beats — then maybe more than one clip.
  5. Approve stills as stills. “Up to five” photos are inputs. Generate or shoot them, read the type, then attach. Do not feed a blurry screenshot and call it photo three.
  6. Lock the product before you lock the camera. If the bottle was shot, you are in image to video from that frame. Do not remix three SKUs into one “hero” because Omni can blend media.
  7. Do not brief student Omni as production. The student page is university, 18+, redeem by 31 December 2026, card required, then $7.99/month unless cancelled. That is not the brand account.
  8. Name the renderer separately. Compare video models on Compare. If duration, 4K, or 9:16 is not on your vendor page for your seat, it is not a brief.
  9. Keep avatar optional. Google says only you can use your avatar, and you can skip it. A founder likeness is not a pack shot.
  10. Bill the right object. A script, a still, a Gemini-app generate, and an API generate are four line items. Do not hide all four under “we switched to Omni.”

Worked example: a Friday restock that does not start in Gemini chat

Say the job is a restock cutdown. The two-pack ships Friday. Legal line approved: Same bottle. Same seal. Restock Friday. The hero still exists. Someone opened Gemini, saw “Omni will replace Veo,” saw “Nano Banana for video,” saw 10 seconds and five photos, and told the channel “the app does video now, we’re covered.”

That sentence mixes four desks.

The spoken line is a writer object. Put the approved sentence on the AI script generator. Ten seconds is enough to ruin a claim twice. No second CTA. If you already live in VEED or Kapwing, their script tools are still script tools. Copy the signed line. Do not hit generate from the unsigned draft.

The beat list is a card object. Steal shot language from prompt ideas, then write four lines, not a chat novel:

  • 0s — kitchen, bottle already on the board (do not invent a second SKU)
  • 3s — hand in, label readable
  • 6s — pour or use, same bottle
  • 9s — end card with the signed sentence only

The pack shot is a still object. Animate it on image to video from that frame. One push-in. No extra bottle. No invented badge. If you use Gemini Omni’s “up to five” photos, those five stills are the same bottle in the same lighting — or they are not a restock.

The renderer is a generate object. If the seat is the Gemini app, the public page says Omni 1.1 Flash, 10 seconds, native audio. If the seat is a developer key, the January post still says Veo 3.1. If the seat is ClipCanva generate, pick a named model on Compare or stay on the AI video generator. Omni is not a substitute for the card.

If the team still wants to “try Omni,” timebox it as R&D: can a 10-second chat keep Restock Friday on screen without adding a fourth claim? That is a generate eval. It is not Friday’s master.

FAQ

Did Google delete Veo? Not on the pages checked 7 October 2026. The Gemini app video page says Omni will replace Veo in the Gemini app, and that Omni 1.1 Flash will now replace Veo 3.1 there. The 13 January 2026 developer post still describes Veo 3.1 in the Gemini API, AI Studio, and Vertex AI. Confirm the live model name on the surface you are paying for.

Does a 10-second Omni clip replace a script? No. Ten seconds is the length Google lists on the app video page. It is room. It is not a claim. Put the signed sentence on the AI script generator first.

Is student Omni a production seat? No. Gemini for Students is a one-year Google AI Plus offer for eligible university students 18+, redeemable until 31 December 2026, with a card on file and $7.99/month after the trial unless cancelled. Do not point the brand restock at a campus promo.

Can I still brief Veo 3.1 on image-to-video tools? Yes if that product’s picker still lists it. ClipCanva’s image to video page still names Veo 3.1 among models. ElevenLabs still lists Veo 3.1 and Omni Flash. Those are vendor catalogs. They are not the Gemini app FAQ.

Does SynthID mean the clip is approved to run? No. Google says Gemini-app generations carry an imperceptible SynthID watermark, and you can ask Gemini to check a file. That is provenance. It does not clear a health claim, a price, or a competitor name.
