How to pixelate an image

Create a blocky pixel-art treatment from any supported image.

01

Upload the source

Choose a photo, illustration, icon or screenshot.

02

Choose the pixel size

Use smaller blocks for more detail or larger blocks for a stronger retro effect.

03

Create and download

Render the blocky version and save the pixel-art image.

Crisp pixel blocks without smoothing

Block size control

Change how much source detail is grouped into each visible pixel block.

Sharp scaling

Nearest-neighbor rendering keeps block edges crisp instead of blurry.

Local conversion

Pixel-art rendering runs in the browser and keeps the source on your device.

Pixel art maker questions

How do I make an image look pixelated?
Upload it and increase the pixel size control. Larger blocks create a more obvious low-resolution look.
Does the tool reduce the downloaded dimensions?
No. It samples a smaller version and scales the blocks back to the source dimensions with smoothing disabled.
Does this create a limited retro color palette?
Not yet. This version changes pixel block size but keeps colors derived from the source image.
