Current compression limits

  • Compression keeps the source dimensions and does not upscale or repair image detail.
  • Very large pixel dimensions are rejected to protect browser memory.

How to compress an image

Create a smaller image in three steps.

01

Choose an image

Add a JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF or JFIF image from your device.

02

Set the quality

Lower the quality value for a smaller file, or keep it higher for more detail.

03

Compress and download

Run the compressor, check the output dimensions and size, then save the result.

Local processing

The image is decoded and compressed on your device, not sent to a processing server.

Image compressor questions

How can I make an image file smaller?
Upload the image, reduce the quality value and process it. A lower value usually creates a smaller file, while detailed photos may need a higher setting.
Will image compression change the dimensions?
No. This compressor keeps the original pixel dimensions. Use the image resizer when you also need to change width or height.
Why does a PNG or AVIF input download as WebP?
JPEG inputs stay JPEG. Other supported inputs are exported as WebP so the quality setting has a real effect while transparent areas remain supported.
